This course has one practical goal: to help you build claims that genuinely rest on evidence. Along the way, you will learn to spot what counts as evidence, judge how strong it is, and put it together into a point you can actually defend. Everything is taught with plain, everyday examples, so you never need any prior background to keep up.

By the end, you will be able to:

• Tell evidence apart from opinion, assertion, and anecdote

• Weigh how strong a piece of evidence is

• Structure a claim into a recommendation, its grounds, and the reasoning that connects them

• Gather and organize evidence, including evidence that works against your first instinct

• Build and defend an evidence-based claim without overreaching

The course is split into two short parts, and each one ends with a quick self-check quiz:

• Part 1 - Recognize Evidence and Tell It from Opinion: what evidence is, the main kinds, how to weigh their strength, and how to tell a real claim from an opinion, an assertion, or a one-off story.

• Part 2 - Build and Defend an Evidence-Based Claim: how a claim is put together, how to gather and organize evidence (including evidence against you), and how to reason to a conclusion without stretching it too far.

Each part builds on the one before it, so working through them in order will give you the smoothest ride.

Each part ends with a short quiz. The quizzes are self-checks, not graded tests. They are there to help you confirm what has landed and spot anything worth a second read. Answer honestly, and treat any misses as a signal of where to look again.
