This course has one practical goal: to help you turn a conclusion you have already reached into a judgment you can state honestly, with just the right amount of confidence. Along the way, you will learn to say how sure you are in plain, calibrated language, name the limits of what you know, and spell out what would change your mind. Everything is taught with ordinary, everyday examples, so you never need any prior background to keep up.

By the end, you will be able to:

• State your confidence in calibrated language, at the level the evidence warrants

• Steer clear of both false certainty and false modesty

• Name the limits and unknowns in your evidence and reasoning

• Tell how well-supported a claim is apart from how strongly you feel about it

• Say what would change your mind, and update your judgment honestly when the evidence shifts
