We are surrounded by human accounts: a neighbor recalling how their street changed, a heartfelt product review, an old letter, a stranger’s post about a hard week. These voices carry real meaning, but that meaning is easy to miss, easy to twist, and easy to overstate. Most of us were never taught how to read them carefully.

If you write, study, organize a community, report on people, or simply want to understand others more fairly, that gap matters. Skim an account and you flatten it. Quote it loosely and you change what someone actually said. Draw a big conclusion from a handful of voices and you claim more than the evidence supports. Small mistakes, but they distort the people behind the words.

This beginner course teaches the full arc, from raw material to responsible meaning, on everyday, general-interest examples. You start by gathering and preparing a small set of accounts ethically, with a plain-language consent and anonymity practice. You then interpret them: reading closely, coding recurring ideas, building themes anchored in real excerpts, and taking disagreement seriously. Finally, you learn to represent people fairly, weigh other readings, and name the limits of what a small set can show. No prior research or humanities background is assumed, and every term is defined the first time it appears. You bring your own chosen set of accounts and put the whole method to work on them.

Sign up now and learn to turn other people’s words into honest, well-grounded meaning.
