What Will I Do as an AI Engineer?

An AI Engineer’s job is to use techniques such as Deep Learning to develop features such as chatbots or even navigation systems for autonomous vehicles.

In addition to mastering Data Science and Machine Learning techniques, you can use Microsoft Azure services for the purposes of developing AI products. You will also practice deploying your algorithms into production, and even supervise the development of an AI product.

How Much Will I Earn as an AI Engineer?

Here is what you can expect to earn, on average, as an AI Engineer:

  • Beginner: $45,000 to $65,000 USD gross per year
  • Senior: $65,000 to $90,000 USD gross per year

Roles in AI Engineering are in high demand, particularly for full-time employment. Freelance AI Engineers have charged up to $1,000 USD per day of work.

Who is Eligible to Enroll?

Required education level:

  • a bachelor's degree, or equivalent, in computer science, economics, finance or data analysis;
  • or a an associate's degree, or equivalent, and at least 2 years of professional experience in computer science, economics, finance or data analysis;

All other candidates will need to go through a specific admissions process. These candidates must have:

  • an associate's degree, or equivalent, in any subject and at least 1 year of professional experience in any field
  • and a completed placement test consisting of:

English language level: you will need to provide a certificate not older than 2 years to demonstrate a minimum level of English B2. Certificates accepted:

  • English Diploma from a secondary institution (private or public) or an accredited higher learning institution
  • Linguaskill minimum score: 160
  • BULATS minimum score: 60
  • TOEIC minimum score: 785
  • IELTS minimum score: 6.5
  • TOEFL iBT minimum score: 88
  • Cambridge FCE / CAE / BEC HIGHER / BEC VANTAGE minimum score or grade: B or 160
  • Certificate from a language center demonstrating a minimum level of B2 (including the number of training hours completed and the company signature or stamp)

Equipment: Access to a computer (PC or Mac) with a microphone, webcam, and good Internet access. 

To complete this path, your computer will also need to meet the following requirements:

  • CPU: 2 x 64-bit, 2.8 GHz, core I3 or AMD Ryzen 3 minimum (ideally core I7 or AMD Ryzen 7),
  • RAM: 8 Go minimum (ideally 16 Go, but it's possible to use a free Google Colaboratory account for the larger datasets in the program),
  • Storage : 512 Go, SSD ideally.

For the Deep Learning data processing in particular, you'll need:

  • Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) NVidia 8Go minimum,
  • or use of free Cloud solutions available via a browser Google Colaboratory (GPU or TPU), or Kaggle Notebook,

Technical Prerequisites:

  • Mathematics (real analysis, algebra, probability, statistics).
  • Computer Science (algorithms, databases, shells).

Your diploma

  • OpenClassrooms is an online training educational establishment, declared as such by the French authority ‘le rectorat de l'Académie de Paris’.
  • Once you’ve completed your training program, and subject to validating your skills, you will receive the OpenClassrooms standard diploma "Data Scientist".
