This team applies the principles of Scrum. The team has its own Scrum events and will take on the same roles as a Scrum team.
It is a virtual team insofar as the team only comes together for the events. At the end of each event, each member returns to their original team.
Agile Roles at Scale
One of your Product Owners takes on the role of Scaled Product Owner to drive forward the product vision and chart the course for the business area.
One of your Scrum Masters takes on the role of Scaled Scrum Master to facilitate the agile events at scale and reduce barriers.
Agile Events at Scale
Daily Release
Daily Release is a 15-minute meeting held every other day, immediately after the last daily meeting of the teams. It brings together all the members of your virtual Scrum team.
The event should allow several questions to be answered:
What outcomes have been achieved by my team since the last event?
What obstacles have hindered my team's progress?
Are there any negative interferences between the teams?
What outcomes do my teams plan to have achieved by the next event?
Product Owners Committee
Your Product Owners meet once a week to guide all of your teams based on a shared vision and to foster coordination of the teams' work.
Sprint Release, Review Release, Retrospective Release
Your virtual Scrum team organizes agile at scale events based on Sprint Planning, Sprint Review, and standard Retrospectives.
Set up the Scrum of Scrums Framework
Advantages
A lightweight framework, as the workforce is unchanged.
The agile teams already in place are not altered by the shift to agility at scale, which means the momentum that has been built up can be maintained.
Points of Caution
Ensure that the Scaled Product Owner is seen as a true owner, with authority and accountability, by the other Product Owners so that the Scaled PO can steer the visions and overall prioritization. The Scaled PO should be close to the business areas, have a command of functional aspects, and be able to prioritize and make decisions. Without this, there may be conflicts around prioritization.
Ensure that the Scrum of Scrums Master has the agile experience, skills, and influence they will need to fulfill the duties of this critical role.
Over to You!
Initiate Adoption of Agility at Scale for the Fidelio Scope
The shift to agility at scale for the Fidelio scope is set to take place in three weeks. To ensure that the launch is successful, SoEasyHotel has entrusted you with onboarding the members of the two teams!
These people are familiar with team agility and apply it on a daily basis. However, they know nothing about agility at scale.
You have gathered the teams together for an information session.
How will you explain to the members of the two agile teams what is going to change for them in this new way of working?
Don't hesitate to make a list of the key points to communicate to them.
Onboard Two Additional Teams
A few months later, Fidelio is a victim of its own success. Well done!
The project scope has been granted a budget extension 🥳. You must onboard two more new teams, and the level of cross-team dependence is getting higher. 😱
