Get some practice writing your first project brief

It's your turn

In the course, you saw an example from Dough, a baked goods recipe subscription company. It's time for a different example.

You're a freelance video game developer who was just hired by Lego. Yes, the building toy! Lego wants to build a video game that'll be featured in their New York City flagship store. There will be an enormous physical Lego display of a spaceship, and visitors can step inside the big Lego spaceship to assume controls of a miniature video game panel. The video game lets them fly the spaceship through a fake Lego universe.

The whole project is a marketing effort to take more photos within the Lego store, thereby attracting more visitors. The company hopes that this will lead to at least 50 photos of the spaceship on Instagram the first day and at least 50 mentions on Twitter.

You have 3 expert Lego builders at your service to build your vision of the spaceship. You are personally responsible for coding the video game that will appear inside the spaceship. The whole project should take 6 months, from the first day of working on it to the day the spaceship is publicly visitable.

Your assignment is to write a 2-page (double-spaced, 12 pt font) project brief summing up this project. Include the following 4 sections:

  1. Summary

  2. Stakeholders

  3. Goals

  4. Timeline

You don't need to include a budget, since Lego itself will be defining this.

Feel free to include images, creative titles, or whatever you like!

Check your work!

Check that the following elements are present:

  • The summary of the task is clearly listed.

  • The stakeholders in the project are listed.

  • The goals of the project are listed.

  • The timeline of the project's completion are listed.
