If you are – or if you aspire to be – a senior leader in your organization, then the odds are that sooner or later, you will need to understand, articulate, and perhaps create a roadmap for digital transformation. This course will help you achieve that. It is designed to teach you how to create and execute a digital transformation roadmap.

By digital transformation, I mean exploiting digital technologies to create a robust new digital business model - we’ll look at this definition in more detail in the next chapter. Such projects cannot be undertaken lightly.

These exercises can face internal opposition and consume large amounts of personnel resources and capital expenditure – such as spending on the technologies required to deliver the project.

So if they’re such complicated projects, why would any organization go through with them? That’s what we’re here to find out – and to learn how to overcome these obstacles to make your digital transformation strategy a success.

Is this course only for people implementing digital transformation at a company wide scale?

The answer is no! Digital transformation programs and projects can involve a whole company, but also only one particular team. If you are a manager who wants to implement a digital transformation project in your team, this course can also help you to plan out the steps to do so.

The course will be made up of three sections, each with four or five chapters, and each concluding with a quiz to check that what you’ve learned has sunk in.

In Part 1, we’ll identify the organizational opportunities for a digital transformation – and look at some of the roadblocks you’ll potentially encounter along the way.

Part 2 will focus on winning support for your digital transformation strategy, and introduce Boston Consulting Group’s three-part transformation framework. To help you understand that, we’ll also be exploring the types of stakeholder personalities you’ll encounter as you set out to plan and gain commitment to deliver the roadmap.

Finally, in Part 3, we’ll consider how to instill a long-term culture of continuous innovation. This is important because digital transformation roadmaps tend to have long-term change agendas.
