Read Your Mission

Hello, and welcome to this course! I am so happy to have you here. My name is Kelly Gracia, and I am a data analyst and data instructor by trade.

Before we dive into this course, I would like to take a moment to discuss an observation I have made over the years of being both a data student and a data teacher:

In this course, you are going to learn not only how to create a dashboard with Tableau, but also why it's so important to your career in data analytics. To do so, you are going to learn through a real-world scenario

In the text below, you will become familiar with the project requirements for a dashboard deliverable at Marketing Firm, Inc. This mission represents a very likely request for a data analyst.

Throughout the course, you will be applying what you learn to create this dashboard, and doing so will prepare you for work in the real world.

By the end of the course, you will not only have a dashboard project to add to your portfolio of work, but you will also feel confident in your ability to deliver effective, interactive, and impressive dashboards.

Excited? Ready to go? Then check out your mission below!

Your Mission

You are a data analyst at Marketing Firm, Inc., a company that assists businesses with customer acquisition and conversion optimization.

Marketing Firm, Inc. wants to leverage a new opportunity to target digital ads to the users of Citi Bike, a bike-share program in New York City and Jersey City. This program allows its users to rent a bike from one Citi Bike station for 30-45 minute intervals (depending on the type of rental pass a user purchases), and drop off at another station.

The ultimate goal is to launch a digital billboard ad campaign at certain times and locations to maximize the effectiveness of their targeted ad campaigns.

Further Information

The team leads on this project want you to create a dashboard to analyze historical trip data for 2018. They have asked you to include several key metrics:

  • The total number of trips broken down by user demographics.

  • The average number of trips for time of day.

  • The average number of trips for day of week.

  • The total number of trips per month.

The Data

Wait what? :euh:

You may be asking, what is a dashboard? How do you create one? Where do you start? What tools do you use?

In this course, we will discuss each of those questions, in turn, and review the process to create a dashboard. Let's go!
