State authorization

To make education accessible, OpenClassrooms is expanding its degree-granting authority. Currently, OpenClassrooms is registered, licensed, authorized, or has certified exemption in, and can only issue degrees in, the following US states: Colorado, Idaho, Hawaii, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire, and in France. Students residing outside the U.S. are subject to national laws governing degree-issuance.

Additional US states will be added in the future, as our goal is to cover all US states and territories. Employer-funded programs, such as registered apprenticeships, are available nationwide.

Frequently asked questions

Institutional Accreditation refers to the quality of the institution as a whole. OpenClassrooms voluntarily participated in a multi-year review of the institution. This review culminated in a Site Visit led by a team of higher education professionals, most of which were members of WASC accredited institutions. This process of “peer review” is a pillar of U.S. accreditation. Read the commission action letter.

The U.S. system of higher education is governed by a triad: accreditation agencies, state agencies, and federal agencies. While accreditation agencies provide a stamp of quality for institutions as a whole, states control degree-granting authority. OpenClassrooms degree programs must be reviewed by state agencies that establish this authority through statute and law.

OpenClassrooms mission is to make education accessible. To fulfill this mission, we intend to have online degree programs authorized in ALL states. We are working hard behind the scenes to make this vision a reality. Additional states will be added in the future.

OpenClassrooms can offer Associate, Bachelor’s, and Master’s level degrees. The scope of these degrees covers information technology, business, social services, and energy management. Discover all available degree programs on our dedicated page.

WASC accreditation is a widely recognized quality assurance process in higher education. For French and other non-US-based students, it confirms that OpenClassrooms’ programs meet international standards of academic rigor, student support, and institutional quality. This recognition enhances the value of OpenClassrooms degrees for employers and institutions worldwide, helping to open doors to both national and international career opportunities.
