OpenClassrooms is committed to a continuous process of compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation of April 27, 2016, to ensure that our users' data is collected and used transparently, confidentially, and securely.

Our Privacy Policy describes how OpenClassrooms processes the personal data of visitors and users (hereinafter referred to as "Users") while they navigate our website www.openclassrooms.com (hereinafter referred to as the "Site"). The Privacy Policy is an integral part of the General Terms of Use of the Site.

We always pay close attention to the data of our Users. We may modify, supplement, or update the Privacy Policy periodically. Collection of personal data from minors

As part of its mission and its desire to provide accessible training for all, OpenClassrooms may collect data from minors over 15 years of age when they access our Site for information purposes. Our Site does not intend to register, collect, or store information about anyone under 15 years of age. If you have given your consent while being a minor, the personal data concerning you has been collected. You can exercise your right to be forgotten if you no longer wish for your data to be in our databases.

  • Tracking interactions with Users to centralize and organize information about client relations

  • Management of project validations and certificates
  • Management and issuance of diplomas
  • Management of requests for exercising rights of individuals, if applicable, management of data breaches
  • Transmission of data to the Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations for professional certifications obtained as part of the personal training account
  • Management of RNCP titles for all trainings (registration, issuance, and renewal of RNCP certification for OpenClassrooms training)
  • Management of funding requests for Students with RQTH status
  • Management of defenses (organization of jury sessions, connecting with partner juries, and rendering their decisions)
  • Tracking employment rates (collecting data from former Students to evaluate their employment rates and for renewing professional certifications with France Compétences, the organization responsible for evaluating and registering professional certifications in the RNCP)

  • Management of communications and events for Users (sending newsletters for marketing purposes such as promoting training and courses, personalized messages, etc.), Students (webinars, news, etc.), and conducting surveys (including motivation and satisfaction surveys)

  • Management of declarations from Students regarding their special status (RQTH and others)
  • Management of the automated application process for Students with available job offers in the Employment section

4. Are your data shared with third parties?

The personal data collected on our Site is intended for OpenClassrooms' use and may be transmitted to subcontracting companies that OpenClassrooms may use in the course of providing its services. OpenClassrooms does not sell or rent your personal data to third parties for marketing purposes under any circumstances. We also work closely with third-party companies that may have access to your personal data, particularly:

  • When you expressly request it (for example, when using authentication methods provided by social networks, allowing you to integrate into your OpenClassrooms profile information from your account on their Site);
  • When we use search engine providers and analytical solutions to improve and optimize our Site;
  • When we are legally required to do so, or if we believe in good faith that it is necessary to (i) respond to any claim against OpenClassrooms, (ii) comply with any judicial request, (iii) enforce any contract with our members, such as the General Terms of Use and this Privacy Policy, (iv) in case of emergency involving public health or physical integrity, (v) conduct investigations and inquiries, or (vi) ensure the rights, property, and safety of OpenClassrooms, its members, and more generally, any third party;
  • If OpenClassrooms or all or part of its assets are acquired by a third party, the data in our possession will, where appropriate, be transferred to the new owner. We may aggregate data about you and send or receive it from our business partners, including all or part of your personal data and information collected through cookies. These aggregated data will only be used for the purposes described above. Upon request, we can provide you with a list of countries where we store your data and those where they occasionally transit by contacting us at data-protection@openclassrooms.com. Your data is hosted within the European Union, and we ensure that their transfer to countries outside the European Union, such as the United States and the United Kingdom, is done exceptionally. We have concluded specific contracts and standard contractual clauses established by the European Commission with the American entities to which we transfer your data to frame and secure the transfer of your data to these providers. We may use the services of American companies to whom we outsource your data to respond to your requests, provide online payment tools, provide commercial and advertising services, or email and SMS services.

5. How are your personal data protected?

ISO 27001 certified, OpenClassrooms applies recognized technological and organizational security measures to ensure that the personal data collected is neither lost, misappropriated, accessed, modified, nor disclosed by unauthorized third parties unless the communication of these data is imposed by current regulations, notably at the request of a judicial authority, police, gendarmerie, or any other authority authorized by law. The security of personal data also depends on the Users. Users agree to (i) keep their login and password confidential, (ii) not share their account, and (iii) notify OpenClassrooms of any unauthorized use of said account as soon as they become aware of it

6. How long are OpenClassrooms Users' personal data retained?

To allow Users to recover their account in case of forgotten password after a prolonged period without logging into the Site, your email is retained for security purposes. However, it is possible to delete it by modifying your profile information in the "My Account" section of the Site.

We retain your data only for the time necessary for the pursued purposes in accordance with legal requirements, including:

7. What happens when using OpenClassrooms services in relation to social networks?

When you use social networks and OpenClassrooms services or applications related to social networks, this may result in data collection and exchange between social networks and OpenClassrooms. We are not responsible for the use of your data by social networks for their own purposes. You can configure and control access and confidentiality of your data directly on social networks.

8. What are your rights?

According to the applicable regulations, Users of our Site have the following rights:

  • The right to access data that OpenClassrooms holds about them;
  • The right to obtain from OpenClassrooms the correction of inaccurate or incomplete personal data concerning them;
  • The right to obtain from OpenClassrooms the deletion of personal data concerning them:
    • when they are no longer necessary for the purposes for which they were collected or processed;
    • when the User concerned withdraws their consent for processing based on consent or opposes processing.
  • The right to obtain from OpenClassrooms the limitation of processing in case of contestation of the accuracy of personal data. When OpenClassrooms no longer needs personal data for processing purposes, but they are still necessary for the User concerned for the establishment, exercise, or defense of their legal rights;
  • The right to data portability for data provided by Users when these data are subject to automated processing based on their consent or a contract;
  • The right to object at any time for reasons related to the particular situation of Users to the processing of personal data whose legal basis for processing is legitimate interest;
  • The right to define specific directives regarding the conservation, deletion, and communication of Users' data after their death with OpenClassrooms services according to the modalities defined below. These specific directives only concern processing carried out by OpenClassrooms and are limited to this scope.

Privacy Policy Addendum for United States Residents

This Addendum for United States Residents ("Addendum") supplements the information contained in the Privacy Policy available at https://openclassrooms.com/en/policies/privacy-policy and applies solely to visitors and users, who reside in the United States ("consumers" or "you"), particularly in states that have enacted comprehensive privacy legislation, including but not limited to California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, and Utah. We adopt this notice to comply with applicable US state privacy laws. Any terms defined in such laws have the same meaning when used in this Addendum.

1. Scope and definitions

This Addendum uses certain terms that have the meanings given to them in the applicable US state privacy laws. For the purpose of this Addendum:

  • "Personal Information" means information that identifies, relates to, describes, is reasonably capable of being associated with, or could reasonably be linked, directly or indirectly, with a particular consumer or household. It does not include publicly available information from government records, de-identified or aggregated consumer information, or information excluded from the scope of applicable privacy laws.

3. Your privacy rights

Depending on your state of residence, you may have the following rights with respect to your Personal Information.

  • The Right to Know and Access: You have the right to request that we disclose certain information to you about our collection and use of your Personal Information over the past 12 months.
  • The Right to Delete: You have the right to request that we delete any of your Personal Information that we collected from you and retained, subject to certain exceptions.
  • The Right to Correct: You have the right to request that we correct inaccurate Personal Information that we maintain about you.

Only you, or a person legally authorized to act on your behalf, may make a verifiable consumer request related to your Personal Information.

Verification process: For requests to access, correct, or delete your Personal Information, we must verify your identity to a reasonable degree of certainty. We will do so by asking you to provide identifying information that matches the information we have on file for you. We will not use this information for any other purpose. We cannot respond to your request or provide you with Personal Information if we cannot verify your identity or authority to make the request and confirm the Personal Information relates to you.

Opt-out requests: You do not need to provide verification to make a request to opt-out of the sale or sharing of your Personal Information.

5. Notice of right to opt-out

You have the right to direct us not to sell or share your Personal Information, by opting-out for Advertising Cookies directly on the Consent Management Platform available by clicking on “Cookies” on the footer of any page.

6. Children's and Minors' Privacy

Our Services are dedicated to people over the age of 16, according to our Terms of Use.

Our Services are not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect Personal Information from children under 13 without complying with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If we learn that we have collected Personal Information from a child under 13 without verifiable parental consent, we will delete that information.
